Talk Overview

Pain emerges from the neuromatrix, the network of nerves in our brains that perceives pain as a distinct feeling. Pain distorts our body schema, altering the shape and size of body parts or causing the persistence of parts that no longer exist. Dr Owen Williamson, a specialist pain physician, and Dr Diane Gromala, a VR expert will discuss VR’s promise in rewiring the neuromatrix to restore the body schema and treat pain, and the need for collaboration in designing, validating and distributing VR technology for pain management.
